How It Works

Last update: January 31, 2025

Delivering the Funds

On a rolling basis, members of the Grief and Hope team will review each application to confirm the following details to the best of their ability:

  • Applicant is a real person

  • Applicant is an artist or art worker

  • Applicant lived or worked in an area affected by the Los Angeles–area fires that began on January 7, 2025; and

  • Applicant has lost, or lost use of, their home, studio, workplace, and/or studio-related property as a result of the fires, and has a legitimate need for natural disaster relief funds.

We will also verify identity and the applicant’s connection to the affected address, which will allow our team to release funds.

With The Brick, and following the vetting process, our goal is to distribute funds equally and ASAP back out to LA-area artists and art workers affected by the January 2025 fires.

The Brick will issue direct deposit payment using Bill.com (or via check).

For recipients, please note that The Brick will be distributing emergency disaster relief funds, which—in theory—should not be taxable income. However, we cannot offer tax advice, so please consult with a tax professional if you have questions.
